Create a Constellation Activity

We have spent some time discussing the Greek and Roman constellations and the myths that explain them.  Now it is your turn to be like them.  You are to make your own constellation and create a myth to explain why this constellation was placed in the heavens.

Your myth should be in story form.  Remember, constellations were placed in the sky because they achieved something great or received favor from the gods.  However, they also had a background to their story, which made the myth more "acceptable".  So, please avoid such stories as: He rode a skateboard on a vert pipe and went so high that the gods just placed him in the heavens.  This is a good start, but obviously the story lacks depth.  Be sure to include drama and conflict in your myth.  These myths were basically mini soap operas.  Finally, YOUR MYTHS MUST BE TYPED.  This myth should be one page in length and with size 12-14 font.

For your constellation, you will be gluing yellow stars on to black construction paper.  This should be a simple dot diagram that shows an outline shape.  Too many stars actually hurt the concept of a constellation.  Let our imagination fill in the spaces, but make sure the overall shape is there.  You will be drawing light lines to connect the dots and must also name 5 of the stars.  Please use the entire sheet of paper.
