Guide to Watching October Sky
Homer Hickam was a young boy from a small mining town who was always eager for his father’s approval. Homer knew he could achieve this approval by following his father’s footsteps and work in the mine. However, that is not in Homer’s plans. Homer wants to go to college and learn rocket technology.
Homer receives inspiration from his teacher, the townspeople, Werner von Braun and the friends he builds rockets with. He ends up winning a national science fair and meets von Braun. Through his determination, he eventually gains the respect of his father.
